Your Math Teacher MIGHT BE Your Boss

Ive heard this from my own son when he was in high school. It is no doubt frustrating when you have a difficult teacher! Sometimes, the teachers intention comes from a sincere place, to challenge you so that you give your all, sometimes their intention is to challenge you so that you are prepared for even more challenging college and university programs next year. Unfortunately however, some teachers just like to be difficult for reasons only they can explain.

This is a tough situation, especially for those who might not excel in that particular subject area to begin with, making it all that much more difficult. And, it can be super frustrating when you need this course on your application to the post secondary programs you are interested in.

I have a few of schools of thought on this one. First, you can accept the challenge, dig deep, get extra help after school, hire a tutor, and show that teacher that you are working your tail off! SHOWING your perseverance can go a long way with teachers with this style. Second, you have the option to drop the course, and take it again with another teacher - although this will cost you time, which you might not have if you are applying to schools for next years acceptance. Third, and Im sure you'll hate hearing this if your anything like my son.. but, although having to work with a teacher like this may seem unfair at the time, and you and your friends may have long, unfavourable conversations about him or her, Im here to tell you that this is only the first of a long string of difficult people you are going to meet in your lives!

As an entry level career person, you should be prepared to have very difficult, challenging, unfair, rude, mean, relentless bosses to deal with - you may have very kind, helpful, nurturing and fair bosses too. But business is business, and you will be one cog in a large wheel that your boss needs to keep turning in order to get his objectives met and keep the pressures of senior management off of him - and his pressures will often get put on his staff aka you! And, just like that boss, your mean math teacher may have pressures on him or her that no one else is aware of.

So, my thoughts are... learn early how to handle people like this. Face the challenge, surprise yourself, surprise that nasty old teacher, get the marks, get into the program you want. Dont let someone else decide your destiny for you! And... remember, compassion can go a long way too... having an understanding that your teacher (boss) may be dealing with issues outside of the classroom (office), can go along way in changing your mindset about the situation. www.declareitcareers.com #declareitcareers #careercounseling  #studentlife #studentproblems #student #highschool #university #college #careerguidance #careercoaching #careergoals #empoweryourself #usecompassion #getthemarks #yourdestiny #unseenpressures
