College or University, that is the question!

Sometimes choosing between college and university is dependent on the level of courses you have taken during high school and so sometimes, there isn’t much of a choice especially if you have taken college level or Applied courses (in Canadian schools) in grade 12.
However, even if you are eligible to apply to university programs, be careful to consider ‘how’ you will be taught over the course of these programs. We all have different patterns of learning, of how we learn most effectively. Some of us would prefer to read, listen to and internally digest information that we are being taught. Others of us would prefer to practice what we are learning. We learn best by doing.
Most college programs will have a practical aspect to their teaching programs and are likely best for those that learn most easily by doing. While many university courses are instructional based... focusing on lectures and tutorials.
The career assessment I use had a component to it that tells us how best we learn and can be a guide to whether we choose college programs, university programs, or university programs that also offer a hands-on learning option like a co-op placement.
It’s important to your success at school to chooses an institution and a program that is going to cater best to your particular style of learning.
